For those who may have been following the Advent Calander on the Airfix web site to try and get an idea of what to
expect from them in 2013, they have now posted their intended releases, both new & re-releases for public consumption.
I have to admit that I will be adding quite a few of them in to the stash :$

Enjoy ;)

Rather than having four or five topics being updated at once about this news I'd appreciate it all going in this one instead. Thank you.

Now I don't know about anyone else but I'm pretty interested in the new Harrier GR.1, the GR.3, the English Electric Lightning and the Super Etendard.

Quite a few 'new tools' in small scale - Lancaster, Gladiator, already mentioned Vampire Mk.11, for the IAC fans and Swordfish 'channel dash' decal version for the 'Flying Irishmen' builders.
In 1:48 'new tool' Javelin must be the one.

Given the way things work with Airfix. I'll take a stab in the dark. We'll see the Vampire and the Typhoon first, then the 190, then the Hurricane. So maybe around May if we're lucky Vincent . I don't know my Vampires really well but are there any major differences between the T.11 and the T.55 the air corps had?

T11/T55 is the same airframe, apart from some internal changes. IAC had both marks, although T.11 was used as an instructional airframe, if I remember correctly.
The only problems could be the instrument panel layout of Irish Air Corps machines and wheels, although, I presume, that Airfix will have the 'correct' RAF pattern wheels, unlike Classic Airframes in their 1:48 kit, which are wheels used in Oz.

Looking at the new releases there appears hopefully an idea of what may come out first.
I wonder, just looking at the aircraft 1:72, weill we see the new tools which have the box art complete first. Such as the Tiffie, the Vampire even the C-47A, which will lend itself to a raft of civil decals.
the Channel Dash kits, Hawk, BOB Experience and the Gnat just need new decals

I like the Willys jeep and the Bomber re-supply and interestingly Airfix are now producing PE parts for the 2012 1:48 vehicles.

Is this a line that we might see more of, Any thoughts on the two versions of the Lanc?

Good to see some nice boats - the RAF rescue launch and the two MTB/E-Boats.

And yes the Harriers are very welcome.
It will appear to be an expensive year ofr Irish modellers, complaints abound on other forums re the STGĀ£ cost of some of the kits, And with the exchange rate so lousy it could be a costly year.
Have to start saving all the coppers.

I wonder though are these just re-releases or have they been re-tooled?

I couldn't believe it! New tool gr1 and gr3 harriers as well as the vampire and lightning. I just hope they don't end up with the large trenchlike panel lines that the gr9 harrier got.

We had a look at the new tool Bf-109 at the last Dublin meeting; the panel lines weren't too deep at all. I would say that Airfix is improving with each new release.

The Operation Herrick selection is growing steadily, and been drooling since the Airfix 2011 catalogue! Pity though that the Army Lynx is only available (west and/or south of the Shannon anyway) only comes in a Herrick pack with GPMG armament only. The stand alone Lynx kit, reviewed in all the magazines has a much wider weapons selection.

Santa's elves weren't able to get the vehicle crew set out this side of Christmas, but hopefully we'll see them in early 2013. Saves me hacking up some of the squaddies from the infantry patrol!

The only thing I will say against Airfix is that I'm not terribly fond of the plastic they're using. It does seem a little on the thick side; however that won't stop me from buying their products. There are still a lot of old products, like the Shorts Skyvan, that were only ever kitted by Airfix that I would like to get me hands on.

For those of us in the "one true scale", it looks like it's a Bomber year - what with various options on the famous Lanc, as well as the ground crew vehicles/Bomber re-supply set in May.

I can see a diorama (or three) coming! Looks like we should keep the "Aircraft Diorama" class for the D2 Nationals......(we only got two entries in this class in 2012, both VERY good, but
I think that we might see a few more in 2013.... )

Of course others may see other things that are of greater interest to their modelling preferences in your full list (there are, after all, a few Luftwaffe items, I see :adolf: )

One thing certainly, Airfix is making sure that it is STILL relevant in the 21st century, even for those of us who remember the bagged Airfix kits of our youth in the 1960's / 1970's in our local
toy shops (including Harts in Glasnevin - the reason why there is still a "Hart's Corner" on the Dublin Bus routes and on AA Roadwatch - many years after Harts has gone, that is.....).

Long may Airfix continue to replenish our nostalgia...... :)
