So - who is planning to go to Telford for Scale Model World on November 9th/10th 2013?

Some details can be found on the IPMS (UK) website:-

http://www.smwshow.com/show.php

This one looks like to be a cracker, with the 50th anniversary of IPMS (UK).

According to posts on the IPMS (UK) fb page, accommodation in the two nearest hotels, the International and the Holiday Inn, are ALREADY booked out! There are some other hotels nearby, so if you are planning on going, then you may need to at least reserve your accommodation soon. (I have just booked into the Premier Inn at Telford Central, which is within walking distance, on the other side of the shopping centre and beside the railway station).

IPMS Ireland will have a table at this event, and I have been in touch with the IPMS (UK)'s Overseas Liaison Officer.

Just to confirm what Philip has posted.

We booked our rooms for 2013 at the Holiday Inn as we arrived

and checked in on the Friday night last year.

By then the hotel was half full and it was full for SMW weekend before Christmas.

Usually you can get rooms till at least April/May.

However I booked a twin room for some IPMS/USA friends at the

International next door just last Tuesday.

So there may still be some bookings available there.

By the way is there an IPMS rate at the D2 hotel?

regards

I am planning to be there, I'm booked into the International Hotel for the Friday & Saturday nights.
I rang the reservation desk to book rather than use the website as the website was showing no availability
for the days I wanted.

For anyone who is considering heading over and is scouting accommodation, I have previously stayed in
Gray's Hotel which is within walking distance of the convention centre, and it did the job as advertised.

Looking forward to November already. :D

Nice one and enjoy the trip! Have been once and it was incredible.
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it myself but might avail of the "collect at the show" retail option if anyone has room in their bag?!

Dermot,
As I will not have to worry too much about baggage space as I will have the car, if any club members wish to avail of the
collect & pay @ show retail option offered by Hannants(including the 10% collect @ show discount, IIRC), I would be
willing to pick up and bring back any orders placed, details to be sorted out before Telford.

That's a very decent offer, Vincent. I also am booked with accommodation in November as per my posting earlier in this thread, but really must organise the ferry over.....

So folks - how many from IPMS IRELAND are going over? Don't forget that, if you are a current paid-up member, you will have an IPMS IRELAND membership card expiring on 31st December 2013. This card gets you in FREE to SMW for both days.

(The membership sub for IPMS Ireland for 2013 is CHEAPER than the IPMS (UK) membership, and also guarantees entry to SMW...so if you haven't renewed your membership for 2013, or you are reading this and you would like to join us, then I'd be delighted to receive your membership form and membership sub - just have a look at the ipmsireland.com website, where you can download the membership form.....)

Remember folks - the Royal Mail will no longer allow modelling knives, paints, glues and washes to be sent by internet suppliers in the UK (like Hannants) by mail, so this is your best option to get those modelling essentials.... (And I know, before anyone posts it, that you can order these from the Far East, but if you do, you risk getting a "nice" letter from the Revenue, telling you you need to pay VAT on your purchase for Hong Kong / Japan / wherever, and that, on top of that, you have to pay An Post the tidy sum of €6 for the privilege of collecting that VAT payment off you before they will part with the package that has been addressed to you. [you can guess, from the tone of my comment, that I am personally aware of this.....(how the hell did they cop on to a simple set of decals from Hong Kong????)]

Just to be contrary (a bit) - one option to consider for UK-based supplies is netmerchants.co.uk in Larne, they do send out all the stuff mentioned by courier at a competitive price: Republic of Ireland 24hr Courier Service 0-30Kg £6.75. Looks good to me and if you combine an order ...

...or, if you must, you can get your stuff from many web-stores based on the continent. No problems with post too posh to post over there.

True! Guess it all comes down to maths in the end - price and P&P total. Then again, that one elusive model/decal/book/colour will always be only available at the one dealer who charges an arm and a leg and then only delivers to UK mainland or via Kazakhstan and Kabul ... needing all your account information including passwords and the soul of your first-born.

GREAT! You won't regret coming (though your wallet might!).

When do you plan on arriving? As an IPMS Ireland member, you can get in (for free) from 9 am on each day, whereas the general public don't get in till 10 am. Just show your current membership card to the guys on the door. (That's why the membership cards have an expiry date on them).

Look for us in the overseas section. (Not sure where at the moment, as the individual tables have not been allocated yet, but we are booked in).

I hope to get there around 9ish. I have a few days in England without the wife & kids so it depends what time I get up. A lie in is a luxury I rarely get these days!

Ok folks, as previously mentioned, if any IPMS Ireland club member who is not travelling to Telford is interested in
placing an order with Hannants for collection at Scale Model World 2013 next month I am happy to collect
your order and bring it back with me on your behalf.
Here's what I have in mind, you go to the Hannants website and pre-order your items for collection and
payment at the show(with 10% discount), let me have the £sterling payment before I go, I pay and collect
at show on your behalf and you get your goodies at the earliest opportunity(next Dublin club meeting after Telford?)

If any one is interested in this please PM me with your e-mail details so I can forward you the mail from Hannants
with full details of how to pre-order and collect @ Telford.

Cheers

competition entry fee
I'm considering sending over a model for competition in telford and having downloaded the competition rules, the classes and trophies and the entry form I can't find any mention anywhere of a competition entry fee.

Can anyone enlighten me-is there one and if yes what is it?

Pat, as I understand it you just have to be a paid up IPMS(UK or Overseas) member and have the entry pre -registered before 2 November.
