Folks

I have just received word from the IPMS (UK) Overseas Liaison bod, Gary Wenko, that we now have four 6 ft tables (that's two by 6 ft length, and two depth) tables at Telford. We are teamed up with the Aviation Ireland SIG, run by our colleague (and member) Gerry Carville.

This amount of space is very generous, especially on this, the 50th anniversary year of IPMS (UK), so we need to fill it with the best of what we have.

so....if you have models of IAC planes, or of anything with an Irish interest, that you are willing to have shown at this internationally acclaimed show, then please contact either myself or Vincent Murphy (murfv[at]eircom[dot]net). Vincent and I are going over in Vincent's car and - as far as I know- we are the only ones going over with a vehicle (others are coming by air). It would be nice if we had a good show. Even if you haven't IAC related stuff, figures or dioramas with an Irish interest would be very good. Failing that, some really good models (of anything) would be welcome - if you can get them to us before the off.....(we will both be at the Dublin Chapter meeting on next Saturday 26th, and I will be at the Cork Model Fair on November 3rd....)

(After all, you don't want to see another line up of Bf 109's now, do you...do you...?) ;)

I don't mind to pack up a box and send it over. I think, that Alan is planning to do the same and we'll have a chat about it on our next branch meeting, which is scheduled for 2nd of November.
Nothing for the competition this year though. I am afraid that my 2nd deadline is closing much faster than expected - again...

One further point re Telford:-

I got the following message from Gary Wenko today:-

"Hi, This may not need saying, but entry to SMW is free to IPMS members, regardless of the country of membership.
In order to get in free, you must show a valid IPMS membership card.
Gary"

This reminded me - members of IPMS IRELAND need to bring their current membership card with them to avail of this free entry. You will know if you have a current one, as it says on it that it expires on 31st December 2013. (Older ones will not work, as the folks there are aware of our current membership card......).

Two further points:-

1. If any members of the forum are planning on going to Telford, and are not already members of IPMS IRELAND, then they need to join up very very very soon, in order to get the IPMS IRELAND membership card that lets them in early, both days, and for free. (The IPMS (UK) overseas membership is a lot more than our modest €20...it's actually closer to £30!). And if you join now, and pay by PayPal, or send me on a cheque for €20, your membership sub will last until December 2014, which means that you can get in free to Telford for both 2013 AND 2014. But you have to hurry - I need to get your membership forms, and a confirmation (by way of a pdf or similar receipt of your paypal payment), no later than 1st November, if I have a chance to send you on your card in time.

2. That applies also to any past members of IPMS IRELAND who did not send in their 2013 subs - I need to get these subs, with confirmation of payment or a cheque, by November 1st, if you are to get your cards in time for Telford.

I will not be in a position to arrange for membership cards if I don't get your request by November 1st. (My e-mail and postal address are on the website.)

Thanks,

Philip

Thanks, Pat and Sean.

We will take your advice about the trip. As to the kits..........

Pat - hope your burnt out Sherman does well in the comp, as well as Ken's Fouga and his little Hurricane.

See you lads at 3 pm on the 16th.

Well nothing ventured nothing gained.

I see someone moaning on missing lynx about having to pay in to Telford and then pay their IPMS subs. John Tapsell reminded them that they had plenty of opportunities and time to take out a subscription before getting to Telford. :)

Ahhh, the ever present moaners... I don't think that 15 pounds admission for non IPMS members for two days is too much, but who am I to say?

It's nice to see that some other IPMs IRL members took the plunge and threw something into the competition, although nothing beats to be there in person and see the standard, especially aircraft and diorama modelling is somewhere, way beyond what we can see on this island. Irish modelling came a long way in the last 5 years, still, a long way to go yet...

I was thinking about heading over this year but the money for it ended up going elsewhere! Very best of luck to Pat and any other IRL members entering stuff. Safe trip for anyone heading over too!

Remember - If you spot someone in trouble at sea or on the cliffs or coast or even if you 'think' that someone may be in trouble , dial 112/999 and ask for the Coast Guard, or if you are in trouble at sea, call on VHF Channel 16, MF 2182 KHz or use DSC.

Just back from what must have been (IMHO) the best SMW yet - huge amount of exhibits, on both club and competition tables (there were 1,381 entries in the competition!). Lots of trading (and buying) done too.......

BIG thanks to Vincent (Murfv) for driving over, sharing the car with me and a fair car load of exhibits for the IPMS IRELAND table, as well as some entries for various people for the competition.
His car coming back was even more packed, with lots of bags of purchases from various people (including 4 filled bags of mine!)

We had a great time. Alan, Lindsay and Danny were there at the stand every day (and, as I type this, are currently at Cosford.....), as well as Ken, Don, Ray, Gerry (Carville), Graham and a few other members who live in the UK (Paddy McGannon, Terry Gray and Dave Wallace). Barry (Spenser) flew on the Saturday and joined us on the stand. We were placed beside Gerry Carville's Aviation Ireland SIG, in the Overseas Area in Hall 3, so had a great themed Irish display on one side, and some of our own work (in various genres) on the other side. Many other members dropped by for a chat over the two days. (I hope I have got all the names of those who were on the stand - I myself was missing for much of Saturday, first at the kitswop - hence the bags - and then judging from 11.30 till 3.45.)

As usual, the food and craic each lunchtime with our overseas colleagues was mighty - lots of salami, smelly French cheeses, sausages and pate, washed down with copious draughts of beer and wine. :choco:
The Irish provided some ham (Limerick ham of course!) and whiskey (supplied by Alan), smoked salmon and bread (supplied by Danny) and non-smelly cheese and biscuits (supplied by Vincent).

As always, a solemn toast - using said whiskey - was raised to the Fallen, just after the usual moving 2 minute silence and the Last Post on Sunday morning at 11 am. (We then shared some of this liquor with our neighbours on our left - IPMS Poland. Curiously, the group from Koln on the other side did not appear to be interested in partaking....)

I note that Graham has already started a photo log for the show, so I will be putting up my photos there in due course, once I get some sleep (Vincent and I did the red-eye 2.40 am ferry back this morning from Holyhead).

Roll on November 2014!

Philip
