I'll be working in Hawkins street, so I probably won't be able to sneak out to the meeting. But if there's anything you guys need, let me know and I'll have it there for you. Thanks for that Philip, I won't be in the shop on Tuesday but it shouldn't be a problem leaving them into Jim.

...so the time is running out much faster than expected and, so far, I have only one model ready for the Nats.
What about you, any sneak-peak previews of your efforts, any hints of what you are bringing with you for the weekend?

The only thing I've finished this year is the Airfix Jackal so I might, maybe, enter that. There's a slight possibility that my Science-Fiction and Fantasy GB entry, the Terminator Champion, can be finished in two weeks as well.

For the most part I'm looking forward to soaking up the atmosphere.

As I've agreed to help man the competition registration table I thought I'd make my job easier by putting this here.

There is a fee to enter the model competition. This is €3 per model.

Be prepared- take a look at the rules and classes and decide which one your entry fits and fill in the form before you get there. The form and rules can be downloaded at the bottom of the page here
No need to take your models to the registration table put them straight on the competition table and then register them.
You will be given an entry card to fill in and place beside your model/s
Besides all the other information
Quote:

There is also a “Details” section on the Entry Card,
which allows competitors to provide the judges with
some information about the composition of the kit(s)
used, e.g. ‘low-volume injection moulded with vacform
transparencies’. Please feel free to attach as
much further detail as the Entry Card allows. No
judge, however many models they have built or
examined, can be familiar with every kit that was
ever manufactured. Sometimes, it is the additional
information provided by the modeller about the parts
used that can make all the difference to the judges
when they are making their decision. Due to space
constraints, no more than two photographs can be
placed with any model.

Well worth doing if you want the judges to know that you scratchbuilt the mark 9 doohickey on your panzerknackerschlepper

I have been filling registration form last night and I am confused every year of how to fill it right. I know, I had this rant last year, and probably the year before as well, but there is something I just simply can't get into my head:

There are 4 columns, 2 of which are almost the same:
'Class or Separate Entry Trophy' and 'Trophy or Award Entered'

In the 1st one there's an example given 'Aircraft' and 'A01' in the second case, but as I understand it, 'Class' is 'A01' and 'Trophy or Award Entered' would be, say, 'H1 Best in Show' or 'H3' and 'H5' and so on...
As I have it now, I have Class code in the 1st column and leaving the 2nd one empty.

Any pointers would be appreciated

You are absolutely spot on! Column 2 should say A01, and Column 3 - that is the Awards or trophy column - should state (for example) H2 (if it's an Irish themed entry). Most people leave Column 3 blank, which is fine also, as long as the class no is included in the second column.

The "examples" given on the form were never changed from when the form was first designed and used back in 2010 at the first (Cork) nationals.

I will be covering for Steve Culliton at the weekend as Competition Secretary, as he is unavailable, so will keep an eye on that aspect. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. We will make sure that it's fixed for next year.

Right so...

- 4 columns, from left to right:
- 1st column: Blank
- 2nd column: Enter Class code here, as listed in this link on page 4

- 3rd column: Enter any Special Awards/Trophies code here, as listed in the above link, or leave blank
- 4th column: Enter name of the entry, scale and basic details. For example 1:48 Spitfire, Revell, Big Cat decals, Small Cat interior, scratchbuilt flaps

More details about your model will be listed on the entry card, which you'll get in exchange for the entry form. See Pat's post above.

Link to Parking

For those of you coming to the show by car I've posted a little map here to show you were there is a large underground public car park. It is paid parking but it's safer than street parking.

You'll note there is an alley beside hotel, this needs to be kept clear for traders vans. Also, for those not living in Dublin, be aware that Dublin City runs a clamping operation. The clampers are very enthusiastic about their jobs and if they find you on double yellow or with an expired paid parking display tag they'll clamp you.

Thanks, Sean. One small additional point - I have checked, and parking around Pearse Square is pay and display on the Saturday, but is FREE on the Sunday. So providing you are parking within the spaces there, there is no worries about clamping on the Sunday.

UPDATES

Traders

The following traders have confirmed:-

Dublin Model Shop (aka Walshie's)
Marks Models
Shamrock Miniatures
Irish Transport Books and Models
RB Productions (Radu Brinzan's)
Kingfisher Miniatures
All Scales Models

Arrangements for Layout

I have been in touch with the hotel, and the tables will be laid out and ready for us by 8 am on the Saturday morning, when the place is open to us, so we have 2 hours to set up our stuff on the tables before the public come in. One room/area will be for the traders, and another for the club displays, while the main room will be for the competition. Competition registration will be done separately from the main door entry, so as to avoid any confusion.

Volunteers

Many thanks to those, like Pat, who have already volunteered to help out. We do need more people to man the competition registration for the Saturday morning (just from 10 till 1), the club tables (for the whole weekend) and the competition (both to help with the layout up to 1 pm, to judge, and to keep on eye out for little fingers during the weekend.....) If you are an IPMS Ireland member and are in a position to help, do please send me a PM or an e-mail.

Kitswop

Also, of course, there is the Kitswop. If you have some of your stash that you recognise is surplus to your requirements, then - as an IPMS Ireland member - you have the opportunity to sell it on to anyone coming to the show (whether another member or the general public). Just put a white sticker on the kit or item you want to sell, with the price you want for it, and bring it in. We don't take a cut of any sales (as they do in Telford), but you are asked to serve at least an hour on the kitswop till over the duration of the show. Ken McFarlane has kindly agreed to run the kitswop this year, so he will be the person to contact for the rota for that. It's well worthwhile - last year, over €450 was obtained by a number of members selling at the kitswop

Thanks,

Philip

Just a note on parking - anybody looking for a cheap and save alternative might consider the NCI just across the river - http://www.ncirl.ie/Campus/LocationTransportation/CarParking.aspx - they offer a € 5 flat rate for all day parking on the weekend.

Comparison:
City Quay Parkrite - € 2.50 per hour
Connolly Station - € 9 flat rate
Grand Canal Square Quickpark - € 3 per hour, max € 20

There are also some streets with free parking on Saturdays and Sundays within reasonable walking distance ... though not all should be considered desirable for the more precious vehicles ...

That's a great tip, Bernd. Even if we have stuff to bring, we could take a street space for an hour or so to do that, then put it in to the NCI car park for the rest of the day.

Two questions:

1. Anyone know what the rules for disabled parking are around the hotel- like can I pull up in front of the hotel and unload some stuff? Can I park in front of the hotel?

2. What time do entries have to be in by on the Saturday- is it 12 or 1?

(Sorry if any of this has already been mentioned :bonk: !)

Karl - as to question 1, item 1 ... there is a loading bay (but double yellow lines) right in front of the hotel, used by taxis. Item 2 ... pay and display only, AFAIK no disabled parking at all in the vicinity.

Karl Your best bet is to contact the hotel re disabled parking
Tel. Hotel (within Ireland) 01 670 3666
Tel. Hotel (outside Ireland) 00353 1 670 3666
E-Mail: reservations@pearsehotel.com

Registration of models closes at 1pm

If it helps I'll text you my mobile and I or someone else can come down and collect your stuff when you arrive at the hotel and then you can go park somewhere

I don't know for certain about parking outside the hotel - my recollection is that there are no dedicated on-street "disabled" spaces, but I might be wrong on that. I do understand, though, that if you have the "official" disabled parking symbol, you can park for free on pay and display spaces. You might just want to check that out with the hotel, as Pat says, as it would be awful if you were clamped (and those clampers work for a private company that is contracted to the city council, and are VERY unfriendly - you can guess how I know this!).

There is no off-street car park, as such, for the hotel - they have the use of some spaces in the adjoining apartment scheme, but only for residents of the hotel. If you are booked to stay there, perhaps they might be able to accommodate you.

I do know, because I checked some time back when there was a query, that there is ramped access to the hotel itself from the front footpath, and level access throughout the function rooms that we have booked. (The laneway "goods inwards" doorway from the side, that the traders will be using, is a long corridor with lots of steps, so that is not a possibility, I'm afraid - you need to come in to the hotel from the front)

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday.

I had to look this up ... and it is true. See http://www.dublincity.ie/RoadsandTraffic/Parking/pages/disabledparkingpermit.aspx
My wild guess is that not many people know this, so kudos to Philip.

Karl,

Just finished speaking to the hotel about disabled parking.

They say that there is a single disabled bay "just along from the hotel".

I also know from experience that Dublin Pay & Display is free to any Blue badge holder.

My party has two blue badge holders and as we are guests we will be using the Underground Car Park

for 10Euro. Apparently the lift goes from the car park directly to reception.

I hope this helps. See you on Friday afternoon.
