Ghengis, Bernd, Philip, Pat- Thanks to all of you for the info- very much appreciated. I'm looking forward to seeing you all at the weekend. One more thing regarding the models on the tables though- the rules and regs mentions 'attaching' extra info to the place cards but it also says there's a max of two photos you can have. For some models I like to print off paragraph or two about the kit and the setting etc- for one vignette I had an A4 page with some explanatory text and about six small photos of where I got some inspiration from and two from inside the model- would this be acceptable or is that too much? |

sorry Karl that is indeed too much. The rules say a max of two photos. You can well imagine how crowded a competition table would be if that amount of stuff was placed there. And in fairness to other competitors, to allow one person to put more, when others were abiding by the rules, would not be a runner, I'm afraid. Philip |

No probs Philip- one entry I am planning to take I usually put a poem with it on an A4 page (though I could make it smaller)- would that be okay? (Apologies for going on about this but this is my first IPMS comp). For the rest of the stuff I'll just keep the explanations to the place cards.

..so are we ditching the plastic and are running literary contest next year? Karl, I know that I am grumpy oldfashioned old man, nevertheless, I'd keep the written word to a minimum, if you can squeeze it on A5 or even better on A6. Nothing against poems at all, just that I am a bit afraid of creating a dangerous precedent. Can you imagine that next year every model would be accompanied with A4 sheet? More paper than plastic and messy environment. Something what happened on this years IMSS show: On Sunday there was shitpile of printed advertisements, flyers, business cards, cut outs, bad inkjet printouts and so on littering the tables so much that, in some cases, you had to look really hard to see the model cards between that rubbish. Havin' said that, no matter what our opinions are on that, it's the competition secretary who has the last call. See yis on the bar tomorrow evening Edited by FiSe, Oct 10 2013, 02:42 PM.

I had an A4 sheet with my Burnt out Sherman last year with a photo of the tank it was based on and a list of what I had done to the basic kit. This year I plan to perform my play in front of the judges as they judge (Not really)I can't say I noticed a lot of paper at the IMSS show and I was judging at it. I didn't think the tables were messy but then you should see my workbench ![]() The IMSS rules allow for accompanying material. I have to say I would rather have an A4 page(Folded- print side out) that is easy to read than an A6 or depend on the model card which if mine is are anything to go by could be unreadable

I understand those who don't want any accompaniment to the models on display other than small place cards- in the past this is usually all I have done but at last years IMSS I felt a couple of my models needed some explaining- a bust I displayed, for example, had a very strange piece of kit worn around the neck- one that took me a while to find out what it was and I felt an explanation would be handy. In another I'd used some graffiti from Syria that I had played around with on photoshop and managed to scale down and print out as decals- I thought it would be interesting to show some pictures of the actual graffiti with the model- mind you I did keep the few pictures on a single A4 page- any more than that I thought would swamp the rather small vignette (its just less than A4 size). As for the poem I was talking about- various stanzas from it are are scrawled on the base like graffiti and the name of the piece is taken from the poem- the poet is also mentioned on the name-plate- hence when I usually display this piece I have the poem along with it. That being said it is not a long poem- it would easily fit onto A4 and could be cut down further to essentially display just the text with no real blank white areas. I reckon the only other accompaniment I will have is my LAH Grenadier figure- the Alpine kit is very close to the original photo of the soldier from Kampgruppe Hansen and I think it would be nice to have a small picture of it alongside the base. Having said that if there is something I have done which violates a rule then I'm happy to fix it so I can keep the piece in the competition. Edited by Karl187, Oct 10 2013, 05:40 PM.

I'll be having a photo with my model too ![]() And as there are no limits on size of the '2photographs' allowed, unless they are biger than 4square feet, in which case they must be aproved by Comp secretary, A4 sheet - or 2 A4 sheets - is grand and completely legitimate according to the rules. No worries there, Karl |

Another quick question guys. Could I possibly use a base that has a bit of cobblestone texture plasticard on it rather than just being plain? Or is that too much like a diorama? |

Look in the rules- I'm on my phone or I'd quote the relevant part. From memory though there is no requirement for a base to be plain. A single model may have the crew and passengers OR a single accompanying figure to indicate scale but not both. If it does then it becomes a diorama. As I say this from memory so check the rules to see if I'm right I have had models in competition on a cobblestone base |

Watch out for potholes en route. Nice looking aircraft. I'm looking forward to seeing these and all the other entries tomorrow. Should arrive down from Derry about 1.30. Good luck to everyone entering a model. I'm just getting back into the hobby so maybe I'll have something for next year! |

Really excited about the show . Was thinking of arriving 11am ish Saturday . Is this a reasonable compromise between checking out the best stuff on sale and on display ? I found it ideal at the Irish Military Modellers Soc Show a few months ago . Had a rumbling front wheel bearing in an old 1998 Fiat Punto I drove to the Swords show one Sunday two years ago . The wheel fell off ( front passenger side ) on a quiet country lane the morning after ! Hoping the IPMS Show 'morning after ' will be a bit kinder this time round ! |
