I know I'm a bit late getting this on the forum, but I've a life outside modelling too... Members of IPMS Cork Branch, some of the former Waterford Branch and some other modellers I hadn't met before were in attendance at this show, which was a huge (over 60K people through the gates over the two days) event held in the business park beside Waterford Airport, on the 18th and 19 May. Besides the huge display of trucks, cars, bikes and associated trader stalls to go with them, there was plenty of other activites including a live music stage, archery demonstrations and activities, some living history groups, Steam engines, Harley Davidson motorcycle clubs (and not a "chapter" in sight), karting, food stalls, motorsports displays and merchandise, Coast Guard helo displays and even a Hot air balloon..... There were also two large halls devoted to a model exhibition, which housed many large displays of truck and car models, both diecast and our more familiar plastic kits, farm and plant machinery models, some rail and our own displays. In addition, there were other tables of military, naval, aircraft and civil models built from kits, including some very nice dioramas. I'll let the few pics I took before battery died speak for themselves. Something that I hadn't noted before, was the talent and skill of some modellers who have made some fabulous dioramas to display their vast collection of diecast models. Be they trucks or farm/plant machinery, the fact that diecasts are seen by some kit stickers as not real modelling, needs to be re-appraised when you see the things some of these guys do. There was one guy who was doing great work converting both die-cast and plastic kit trucks to real Irish vehicles. We got a great response from not only the other modellers, but the general public too for some of the stuff we had on show. I personally had a great chat with a former Aer Lingus Capt and his wife; another great chat was had with a couple of former Naval Service personnel. Both these conversations started over a particular model I had on the table (my IAC Chipmunk was the first aircraft the Aer Lingus chap had solo'd in; how cool was that!). These kind of exchanges make the trip worthwhile and are the kind of thing that this hobby is all about. Or should be.. On to the pics... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This was a great event and all well I'll be back next year. 21 06 2013 Sounds like an excellent show with lots to interest people. Might be an idea to give us a heads-up next year and maybe we can have a bigger representation next year. ![]() Liam |

Very true the armor and ships were very nice. I was surprised to see some of my very early builds there too, George dragged them out of somewhere... Most were built in the late 80's! My other "toy" was a big hit with the crowds.. (can be seen very clearly behind the Lotus..... for non petrol heads the Lotus is the red wedge shaped car )The 6x6 is a Rosenbauer Panther CA6 ,Its an 18.1Ltr straight 8.... 0-50mph in 28 seconds, not bad for something weighing 36000 Kg! (Yep 36 Tons) And its super cool too..! It was a great event with a huge turnout. A little let down by layout and information on location of displays but it was the first one.. Bigger and better next year! Gary |
