I'll have plenty of room in my car so I can bring over / back pretty much anything anyone needs.

Ive done it !Booked bus/boat -(well really its ' Drive /LUAS/Bus/Boat/Bus/Train' )-tickets ... 63 euro excluding Luas and Train legs of journey but I got last economy ticket so will be 73 for next person -about 15 tickets left .Getting excited now that Ive gone ahead and bought tickets .Looking forward to these legendary £1 kits like the 1/144 Viscount(?) that people seemed to buy by the armful.

Excellent John! You won't regret it...

(You might be rather tired, with two marathon nights awake......!!)

If you are looking for bargain kits, then the kitswop opens at 9.30 - queue from 9.10 - IPMS members get in to the show free, and for them the doors open at 9 - non-members have to wait till 10 to get in to the halls, and then have to pay. Your IPMS Ireland membership card will get you in free...and at 9.

Thursday evening, just finished packing a few bits for the club display @ Telford, setting the alarm
for an early start adding the last couple of 'wants/needs' to the shopping list and am feeling a little like a kid on Cristmas eve :> :D
Really looking forward to the trip over, talking shop, spend a few quid, take lots of pics and just take in all that
Scale Model World 2014 has to offer.
Life is good

Jeez thats brilliant Filip !I remember it well from IMSS show .Lovely Brisfit .Is it 1/48 version ?Not a 'fall together' / easy kit to begin with Id say .

Mini Report

Kitswap (Not so much 'swap' as 'sale' (I think the idea is members 'swap' the cash they get for new kits throughout the day!)
Posted Image
Think the queue in supermarket the last day before Christmas when people are shopping as if Armageddon is imminent .Despite getting in fairly early a brief stop to help someone with directions meant I was three quarters way back the length of the arena .Stood there for what seemed like about 40minutes .
Inside it became apparent WHY people treat this as one of the show highlights .I picked up a 1/144 Lancaster priced at a quid .There were lots of kits at £1-£3 worth four to six times that .BUT the queue to get OUT with with your 'booty' , eh 'swag' -well whatever word doesnt sound like youre Nicki Minaj (ask yer daughter/niece!) 'HAUL' was even longer with only two 'check outs' .I began to 'fret' thinking it would be a waste of time to spend perhaps an hour or two standing in line to leave and just dropped my choices and left the kitswap .

Describing what the show is like to a first timer as ' like a kid in a sweetshop ' , doesnt even begin to describe the experience , more kid in a sweet factory! It would be very easy to get entirely absorbed in the retail end of things (and still run out of time !) there were a huge selection of top quality models in the 'retail' halls .How about THIS ?!

1/72 battleship(cruiser?) diorama !!!Check out the enormous number of 20mm flak guns on left as Zero is about to hit the deck

Was finding it hard to 'get in the zone' mentally .A bag is essential for purchases but anything much bigger than a plastic carrier bag can be hard to wield in some of the cramped 'kiosks' .Felt 'overwhelmed' and crashed for a bite to eat .Along came Pat McGrath from Dublin branch of IPMS and later an acquaintance of his, english 'pro' modeller , Spencer Pollard .Had a relaxing chat and felt well recharged .Got around all the stands and even squeezed in a quick spin round the Competition Hall .

Posted Image

Imagine my surprise when I saw that Spencer had taken a Gold for his Sherman diorama of a film crew in a workshop setting .Talk about dining with the stars!

I eventually got back to the kitswap when it settled down and picked up some more really good value stuff (see What I Got Today thread)

Posted Image

The dioramas were very imaginative like the 'underground' WW1 truce one above

Steampunk and other fantasy /sci fi dioramas seem to be starting to dominate somewhat at shows and the trend continues .

Posted Image

The above WW1 german plane /car hybrid LOOKS like it belongs in one but is based on an actual vehicle in a photo beside the diorama !

I was thinking about to do something similar when that photo appeared a while ago... But to make it look more like a real car. The photo is a brilliant example of the 'war humour', of course it's not a real vehicle, just boys messing on a scrap heap a bit.

My first time there too though I was at Euromilitaire a few years ago so I wasn't as shell shocked as John even though SMW is much much bigger than Euro. Scale Model World is huge HUGE I TELLS YA! My feet are still sore from walking around the three halls. It was great to meet so many modelleres I only knew previously through facebook and Forums though there were loads there that I missed. As John said we had a great chat with Spencer Pollard who went on to win 9 medals (3 golds) and 9 special awards

Even in two days I don't think you could see everything even if you wore roller skates (Which is probably not allowed)
There were bargains to be had but Kit prices were still slightly higher or on a par with kits here and I managed to avoid coming home with any new shermans though I did agonise over the Tamiya reboxing of the Tasca/Azuka firefly for €38 which is an incredible bargain but since I already have four I really couldn't justify it :-/
between the IPMS Ireland crew, the IMSS crew and the Lads from Irish Scale Modeller from Cork and one modeller from Belfast(That I recognised) I counted over thirty in the whole Irish contingent.
I took some photos- just stuff that caught my eye on the tables and in competition- I could have spent the week end just taking photos. I didn't edit them sorry just uploaded to Flickr
